A good marketing communications strategy tries to leverage every possible opportunity for connecting with a target audience.
Among the better opportunities for doing this are those that naturally fit within a pre-existing context or event. Take a birthday, for example. Wishing someone well on their birthday usually leaves them feeling good about the gesture. The garnering of this promotional value, done in such a manner as to make the marketing mostly unobtrusive, is a simple way to give the brand a gentle lift. It’s that little extra something, like adding flavor to a drink.
What’s additionally nice about this tactic, apart from its simplicity, is that it’s cost effective and can be replicated. Moreover, there are an almost endless number of circumstances in which it will work with equal effect. All you really need to do is plan ahead.
Let’s look at another example, one that’s immediately relevant and may be of interest to you.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
If you’d like to establish, build or strengthen your brand within the Hispanic market segment, then consider the annual arrival of National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 thru October 15, as an invitation to connect with this target audience.
Use your Internet websites and social media platforms to participate in the celebration of it.
Before you do, however, there is one caveat and it is this: be careful to come across as sincerely interested in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month — as opposed to obviously and blatantly using it just to promote your brand. This is important. Much as was done in the birthday example above, the promotional value should be a derived benefit, like a byproduct, from your participation being seen as a wholesome gesture, done in earnest and with care.
One way to do this is by staying true to emphasizing the event, not your product or your brand.
This can be as simple as calling attention to the arrival of National Hispanic Heritage Month, in a manner that is both respectful and supportive.
Another possibility is to share content that resonates with the spirit of what this month is all about. Promote related festivities and events, showcase the contributions that Hispanic and Latino Americans have made throughout the course of history, or offer a taste of the culture.
